Women’s Policy Group NI Response to Help With Health Costs consultation

Health is a fundamental human right, and in Northern Ireland we have not always done well with recognising the ways that financial and social inequalities impact on more marginalised people. In our work with and research with women, we have again and again recognised the ways that health is impacted by economic inequalities and ultimately by gender equality. We believe that this represents an opportunity to improve the ways that marginalised women can access help with the costs of accessing childcare.

There is an opportunity to widen access to the Help With Health Costs scheme here and it should be embraced and used to its full potential to help those most marginalised from support, particularly women, rural dwellers and asylum seekers.

This is an excerpt from the full consultation response which you can read here.
