UN Security Council Resolution 1325 on women, peace and security

Landmark resolution signed in 2000 that for the first time recognised the gendered impacts of conflict and the critical role of women in peace building. Requires UN Member States to develop National Action Plans on women, peace and security and has contributed to a greater focus on women and gender in policy and also international development aid. Built around four pillars; these principles apply to Northern Ireland.
